DDA Course #1:  PRINCIPLES & ELEMENTS OF  DESIGN  – 15 Credits –

OBJECTIVE:  To introduce the principles and elements of design. Familiarity with terminology, concepts and basic materials used in the studio by artists will be explored.

Elisabeth Trostli received her artistic education at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in Illustration. Since 1981, Liz has been a successful free-lance artist and designer, serving the advertising, stationery and gift ware industries.  She combines her passion for tropical flora, antiques, travel and historical decorative arts in the creation of the images that include poster-sized collages, exquisite hand-painted embellishments, and an array of products including wall decor, tabletop, needlecraft, stationery, textiles and gift ware.  Learn more about Liz from her website: http://www.etrostli.com

OBJECTIVE: To learn about “line” and how to embellish letters, initials, and written text with this and other decorative elements as used in Medieval  illuminated manuscripts, Celtic art, and other traditions.

OBJECTIVE:  This is a program designed to introduce the botanical artist to another medium with the same ease as graphite pencil but with far better reproduction quality.

OBJECTIVE: To learn how other cultures have  incorporated symbolism and meaning into their decorative arts and designs.  Students will select one of these influences and apply this language of design to their individual project.

OBJECTIVE: To apply the design process in the creation of surface design from your own creative resources. Independent work and exploration of different areas of design are encouraged. The application can be for anything from textile to book covers, posters, labels, etc. Let your imagination be your guide.

Tile Art Ltd. for Hand Painted Tile Courses

Tile Courses are eligible for elective credits in the Academy Certificate Programs.

Tile Art Ltd. owner, Paddy Dugan, originally from Baltimore, Maryland, is a nationally published and award-winning master tile artist. She is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her first publication was in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine with many more to follow making her a nationally recognized, professionally trained artist.  Sarasota, Florida has been her home since 1995  where her tiles and sinks are individually hand painted and kiln-fired then shipped all over the United States. She was voted one of Sarasota’s Best Women In Business and nominated for Small Business of the Year.  She has long been the first choice of Interior Designers to work with because of her elegant painting style and  professional dedication to service. As an experienced artist, designer and educator, Paddy teaches her art of hand painting tile design and welcomes Academy students to take these tile courses as electives towards Academy Certificate Programs.  Academy students will receive full elective credit towards their certification programs at the Academy.


How To Design And Hand Paint Tile

Qualifies for Academy Certificate Students as 15 Elective Credits
3 Day inclusive level 1 and 2 combined workshop.

(Foundation class to develop skills for future classes).  All skill levels are welcome!
Introduction to the brilliant paints, tools and elements necessary to hand paint tile.  You’ll learn all aspects of tile design including patterns, borders and scale.  Strong encouragement towards developing your personal style and color technique.   You’ll gain experience in creating custom colors, transfer patterns, layering effects, brushstroke technique and an introduction to the firing process. Only in this workshop will you learn advanced techniques that will take your painting to the next level by incorporating incredible detail work and fine embellishment giving your work the polish of a professional.  Demonstrations, student presentation/discussion and introduction to future classes on porcelain painting will have you inspired!  Take home your beautiful 18″ by 18″ tile mural you designed
and painted yourself to enjoy for years to come.

TUITION:      Price $450.00. Includes course information package, Tile Tips and Facts, tiles, paints and two firings.  Take $50.00 off per person when 2 or more register before September 28th.
